NEW YORK SUPPORTS NEW YORK.
New York blue. New Amsterdam orange. Pearls, pavement and a city that has never required permission to become something new.
These colors belong to New York City.
Long before they filled arenas and stadiums, orange, white and blue appeared on New York City’s official flag, colors drawn from the flag of the United Netherlands in 1625 and the city’s earliest history as New Amsterdam.
Across generations, blue and orange became part of New York’s visual language: the Knicks carried them onto the basketball court, and the Mets united Dodger blue and Giants orange, preserving the memory of two teams that left New York while creating something new for the city that remained.
The colors came to represent competition, loyalty, heartbreak, hope and the particular New York conviction that this could always be our year.
This is more than a sports colorway. It is a city colorway.
THE NUMBER 99
The number 99 tells a more personal New York story.
I arrived in 1999 and have called New York home for most of my adult life.
New York molded me, opened my eyes, thrilled me, inspired me, kicked my ass and taught me how to keep moving.
It taught me the value of community. It gave me a career in fashion and a creative home in the Garment District, surrounded by the designers, pattern makers, cutters, sewers, stylists, artists and makers who transform ideas into something tangible.
It taught me that fashion can do more than dress people, It can preserve history, express identity, challenge assumptions and make an idea impossible to ignore.
This city gave me a place to build, rebuild and become.
And I’m still here.
NEW YORK: THEN AND NOW
Fifty years ago, New York was fighting its way through the fiscal crisis that began in 1975. The city was treated as ungovernable, unaffordable and disposable.
New Yorkers kept showing up.
Twenty-five years ago, September 11, 2001 changed New York and the world.
We remember the people killed that morning. We remember the responders, workers, survivors and families whose lives were irrevocably changed. We remember those who became ill or died in the years that followed.
Twenty-five years later, the work of truth and justice is not finished.
New York is still confronting what happened, what was minimized or left unexamined, who continues to live with the consequences and what accountability requires.
Remembering honestly means refusing to let rhetoric, political posturing or convenient versions of history replace evidence, lived experience and truth.
We are still here.
We are still standing.
We are still asking questions.
We are still showing up for one another.
The answer begins with how we treat one another.
WHAT NEW YORK STANDS FOR
New York is not one story or one kind of person.
It is five boroughs, hundreds of languages, contradiction, reinvention, collision, creativity and community, built by people who arrived from somewhere else and people whose families have been here for generations.
It is where artists, immigrants, activists, workers, designers, dreamers and survivors live beside one another without having to become the same.
What makes New York extraordinary is not that it never falls apart.
It is that New Yorkers keep showing up.
For one another.
For the truth.
For the city we inherited.
For the city we still have the power to build.
