LIPSTICK RIOT

There was a time when asking for the vote was radical.

When sitting where you were told not to sit was an act of resistance.

When organizing your neighborhood could threaten the establishment.

When a leather jacket, a miniskirt, a raised fist, a photograph, a magazine, or a voice that refused to stay silent could become political.

Women marched. Organized. Published. Protested. Made art. Made trouble. Made change.

They challenged who controlled their bodies, their money, their work, their sexuality, and their futures.

Then another generation came of age.

They inherited freedoms women before them had fought for, and started asking harder questions about the patterns they inherited along with them.

What are we still accepting?

Who is still being left behind?

And what are we going to do about it?

Because liberation that belongs only to some of us isn’t liberation.

What happens now matters.

What we protect now matters.

What we challenge now matters.

What we build together now becomes somebody else’s tomorrow.

LIPSTICK RIOT is a nod to the agitators, organizers, artists, survivors, visionaries, and beautifully difficult women who refused to accept that the world simply had to remain as they found it.

And to the ones coming next.
